Philippine Consulate in Elizabeth, NJ

Filipinos in Elizabeth are covered by the Philippine Consulate General in New York, 18 miles away, about 34 min by road. There is no consular office in Elizabeth itself, but there is more that can be done from home than most people expect, and it is worth checking before booking anything.

Where Elizabeth is served from

Every Philippine procedure for a New Jersey resident goes through New York: its district is Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont. Distances from the other cities in the state are on the New Jersey page.

With 34 min between Elizabeth and the counter, the trip itself is barely worth planning. The appointment is the hard part.

Three procedures that skip the consulate entirely

Three of the most searched Philippine procedures in the United States are not consular procedures at all:

  • PSA certificates: the Philippine Statistics Authority prints them, not the consulate. You order them on the web and they arrive by courier.
  • An apostille is issued by the Secretary of State of whichever state produced the document. The consulate stopped authenticating on 15 May 2019.
  • For an NBI clearance the whole file travels by mail, and the NBI accepts fingerprints taken by a consulate or by a police station.

The counter is unavoidable for passport biometrics and the RA 9225 oath. A notarial document can also be done by a local notary with an apostille, according to the notarial page of the Chicago consulate. Everything else deserves a second look before you drive.

philippineconsulates.us is an independent information guide to the Philippine consulates in the United States. We are not the Philippine Consulate General, the Philippine Embassy or any government agency. We do not book, sell or manage appointments: every consulate runs its own system. We check the details regularly, but they can change without notice, always confirm with the consulate before you travel.
